
The H-21 Shawnee was not really designed for operating in the high, hot, humid conditions of the highlands of central Viet Nam, but our pilots accomplished military miracles with them anyway. This one is part of a standard two-ship mission to some remote and forgotten outpost, perhaps for a resupply mission. It's been forty-five years so forgive me if I can't remember all the details.
Such arrivals often attracted every little kid for a mile, as obviously happened here. CWO Manuel sometimes charmed and entertained these small fry by producting a little slingshot from one of the pockets of his flight suit and competing with the little boys who also had slingshots.
